Wudi County Profile

WuDi county lies in the farthest north of ShanDong Province, covering an area of 1,998 square kilometers, and there are 593 villages under the government of 11 towns, with the total population of 430,000. The BoHai sea is to the northeast, the Yellow River is to the south. It has been known as “the key spot between Qi and Yan states” and “the com-hub between ShanDong and HeBei provinces”. There are seven 500T-3,000T berth ports or docks in BinZhou Port. The sailing routes have opened to TangGu, TianJin in the north, DaLian, LongKou, YanTai, QingDao in the east and ZhanJiang and so on in the south. Water supply is predominant. The XingFu River and the XiaoKai River run through the county. 12 main and branch rivers flow to every comer of the county with 10 sluice gates and the annual impounding and flowing capacity of water reaches 75 million cubic meters. There are 4 big reservoirs whose capacities are 10 million cubic meters each, with the annual capacity of 120 million cubic meters. Within the county city, there are two running water companies, supplying 10,000 cubic meters daily, some of which has already been introduced to far-off-the-way villages. The soil resource is rich. The county has a total land area of 2,997,000 Chinese mu (199,800 hectares), of which 840,000 mu is cultivated. The above-mentioned two items for every person are both above the provincial level. Different soil combinations make it abundant in wheat, corn, millet, cotton, soybean, mung bean, red bean, sesame and so on. According to the regional distributions, specialized production bases have gradually been built for grain, cotton, dates, alfalfa and mulberry, ect. Wudi County was successively listed in “China’s Fine Cotton Base Counties”, “China’s Commodity Grain Base Counties”, and “China’s Biggest Cotton Production Counties”. It is also famous as “China Date Town” and “China First County of Golden Date”. The sea area is very vast. With a coastline of 102 kilometers, the county has 1,500,000 mu of shallow sea , fishery area and 930,000 mu of beach. It is the natural field of fish, prawns and all kinds of sea products. There are 10 salt fields, with the area of 3,000,000 mu, which can produce 2,000,000T. Mineral resource is rich. It has been verified that the county is rich in petroleum, natural gas, shell placers, building stone materials, high-dense bittern, halite, gypsum and other mineral resources. According to prospecting, petroleum deposite is 150 million tons. So far, 65 petroleum and gas wells have been opened up. There are three 56-km-long shell placers, with total deposite amount of 0.36 billion tons. And more than 100,000T is added every year as the result of tides. This is a rare mineral resource in the world and it is ideal material for such products as quality porcelains and lightweight calcium carbonate. And it is also good additive for production of fodder, cement, rubber, and plastics.Base on the shell resource, jointly tackling key problems with Tsing-Hua University and Silicate Institute of ShanDong Province, more than 200 kinds of shell products, which are sparkling, crystal-clear and pure white like the jade , have been developed. This research has filled in the blank of the domestic top-grade porcelain of daily china. There are over 7,000 commercial units, over 280 shopping centers, 60 flea markets and trading districts, and 20 professional department stores. And there are 5 advanced centers for shopping, board & lodging, and recreation together. A 3-star hotel has been set up by a Hong Kong merchant. The city construction has become a certain dimensions.
