Food Processing in Binzhou
The China’s food manufacturing industry has been strong for the past ten years. In 2011, China’s food industry achieved tremendous growth, resulting in the gross sales revenue of USD 1.1 trillion. Multiple factors contributed to the success of the food manufacturing industry in China. Many Chinese food manufacturers have launched new strategies, including employing high quality ingredients, introducing new technologies and diversifying product lines. It is expected this trend of introducing newer technologies, better food ingredients and more creative food innovations will continue to flourish the long-term prospects for China’s food industry. Dating back to 2004, the output value of China’s food industry amounts to only about one third of agriculture’s total output. While agriculture has been growing steadily over the past years, food industry has grown even more rapidly,closing the gap between the two. In 2011, the food industry in China generated an
output value equivalent to 80 percent of that of agriculture. Of various causes, the support of the Chinese central government has played a key role in the continued dominance of food manufacturing in China. The government’s supportive policies and regulations in food manufacturing have resulted in large domestic and foreign investments in food manufacturing and processing.
The food industry in Binzhou comprises mainly of food processing, which includes rice milling, flour milling, oil refining, wine and spirits distillation, sugar refining, meat processing, salt processing and the processing of other basic food products. Binzhou is also the home to many delicious kinds of fruits, which include dates, pears, peaches and apricots. These fruits are sold both fresh and in cans domestically and internationally.
The most representative food enterprise in Binzhou is the XiWan Group. Founded in 1986, XiWan processes up to 3 million tons of corn each year. Using corn as the key raw ingredient, the company produces fructose, glucose, fructose syrup, corn oil and other corn based products. Today, XiWan is the only enterprise in China that owns a full-scale production line for making fructose. In August 2010, the China Food Industry Association granted XiWan the title of “King of Sugar Manufacturing” and “King of Corn Oil Manufacturing” in China.
